Abstract	The establishment of cell lines derived from embryos of the cicadellids Nephotettix cincticeps, N. nigropictus, N. virescens and Recilia dorsalis and the infection of their monolayers with rice dwarf phytoreovirus and rice gall dwarf phytoreovirus are discussed with reference to progress in virus research. Procedures for the establishment, maintenance and storage of cell lines are described.
