Abstract A continuous cell line was established from the pectoral fin of a jarbua, Therapon jarbua Forskal. The cell, designated JF, have been passed for 90 times during 9 months in Leibovitz's L-15 plus 10% foetal bovine serum under a temperature of 28 +- 1 Celsius. The cell line consists of fibroblastic cells with dipolar or polypolar. Chromosome analysis indicates the cells are heteroploid and show a modal numbers of 48. A low plating efficiency of approximately 1.7% was recorded for JF cell at 28 +- 1 Celsius. The temperature ranged from 18 to 37 degree Celsius, the pH from 6 to 8 or the osmolarity from 200 to 600 mmol/kg could support the growth of JF cell line. JF cells were also demonstrated to the susceptible to Infectious Pancreatic Necrosis Virus (IPNV) AB, S, VR-299 serotypes and Chum Salmon Virus (CSV).
